Sun Metals Corporation (SMC) will deliver hundreds of jobs to Queensland following state government approval of a $300 million expansion to its refinery near Townsville.

Sun Metals owner Korea Zinc Company will invest $300 million in the refinery, enabling an increase to annual production of 50,000 tonnes to 270,000 tonnes. About 30 per cent of the site’s electricity needs will be provided by a $200 million solar farm opened by Sun Metals in August 2020.

Expansion of the existing electrolysis plant and associated infrastructure required a combined solution which included the mobilisation of 2300 tonnes of Acrow's Supercuplok scaffolding and a formwork travelling gantry.

Having worked collaboratively with the client before, they had trust and confidence in our ability to supply within the project timeline constraints which was key to securing the order.

This packaged solution enabled the structure to be built whilst minimising the obstructions at ground level, allowing the lower level works to continue simultaneously. Further complementing our packaged solution, we supported the project with labour resources.
